DARC (Digital Archive Research Collective)

The Digital Archive Research Collective is a platform that aims to address the needs of students, faculty, and communities working on archival research at The Graduate Center. Our primary goal is to assist in the creation of digital archives and exhibitions. We also aim to provide resources (in the form of tutorials, best practices, and workshops) on the archival research process itself. We hope to foster community among digital archivists and researchers by promoting projects and facilitating communication across disciplines and institutional settings.

Silvia and I wanted to let you all know that we are working on an online academic commons space to showcase the archives people in our GC are building. Please email us at gc.digitalfellows@gmail.com if you’d like to share your work!!

We are building to one DARC event for the end of the school year so stay tuned.

Spring 2021 DARC Open Meetings

  • Dear all,

    We’d like to share with you the dates and times for the DARC Open Meetings of the semester. DARC Open Meetings are open to all constituencies of the Graduate Center – rather than focusing our conversations on pre-determined themes, this semester the meetings will work as a space to congregate and discuss interesting projects that you come across, brainstorm solutions to theoretical or technical issues, present and discuss students’ projects or classroom experiences with digital archives, and host conversations around relevant issues that concern digital archives across the fields.

    We will be meeting on:

    • Wednesday, March 10 at 12pm;
    • Monday, April 12 at 12pm;
    • and Wednesday, May 5 at 12pm.

    The Zoom links will be sent through the DARC Commons Group the morning of the events.

    We’d also like to invite you to an introductory workshop on choosing the archival platform that most fits the needs of your projects that will take place on March 17, at 11.30 am. You can find a brief description and the link to register below.

    Intro to Creating Digital Archives

    March 17 @ 11:30 am – 1:00 pm

    This workshop is designed for students, faculty, and staff at all levels interested in creating a digital archive as part of their research projects or for use in the classroom. A brief discussion on some of the theoretical underpinnings of digital archival work will be followed by an overview of a range of tools and platforms (including WordPress, Omeka, Tropy, Drupal, Jekyll, and Collective Access). Together, we will go over a number of questions and examples that will help you choose a platform that best fits your needs and those of your projects.

    Stay warm!
