CUNY Games Network

Visit our website at http://games.commons.gc.cuny.edu (or by clicking the Visit Blog link on the left).

We connect educators from every campus and discipline at CUNY who are interested in games, simulations, and other forms of interactive teaching. We seek to facilitate the pedagogical uses of both digital and non-digital games, improve student success, and encourage research and scholarship in the developing field of games-based learning.

Game Development Vendors In/Near NYC?

  • At the School of Professional Studies, we’ve received a great opportunity to develop an online course for NY high school students on personal & college finance. We will need some assistance from development vendors to create online games for student learning. Any recommendations for game development vendors you know or have had good experience with?

  • Hi Jill,

I can heartily recommend Electric Funstuff, electricfunstuff.com. They’re a small game shop that we’ve been collaborating with for 5+ years on a series of online history games for middle schoolers. They’re quite versatile when it comes to audience and subject matter, though, and have lots of experience blending learning objectives with different game genres and mechanics. Bonus is their location near the Flatiron, so just down the road from the Graduate Center.

Feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions.

Good luck—sounds like a great project!

    Hello Jill,
I’ve worked with Neuronic Games, an educational software and games company in midtown, as their pedagogy/learning objectives expert (http://www.neuronicgames.com). They’ve done applications from elementary through college. If you decide to use a different company, but you think you might have use for someone like me, I’d be interested.

    Hi Jill–

I have been working with Sortasoft Games for years, and I can tell you that Joshua DeBonis (founder) is one of the finest game creators I’ve ever met. He has tons of experience working with clients (ETS is one of them) and is an award-winning designer in his own right–days ago he won the Developers’ Choice Award at the Indie Games Festival. If you want to contact Sortasoft–and I really suggest you do–you can reach Josh at josh@sortasoft.com .

P.S. Neuronic and Electric Fun Stuff are great too!

Thanks, all, for the great suggestions. We look forward to checking them out.
