Rose Crisostomo Cabrera replied to the topic Lab 3: Discovering Plate Boundaries Continuing Discussion

We all observed the different clusters of volcanoes as well as the commonality between the location of earthquakes and the plate boundaries. Something that my peers noticed that I did not related to the age of the seafloor; the older seafloor is closer to the boundary while the younger seafloor is away from these boundaries.

    Volcanoes

We can see that there are volcanoes at the edges of most continents and follow a pattern of being at the very edges. This makes sense since we know that a significant chunk of volcanoes occur at the boundary of tectonic plates. The ones that are close together and at the border of continents are likely from subduction zones.

I like the way you came up with the experiment to test your hypothesis — it is relatable and demonstrates the concept clearly.

I really like this lab-thought experiment. Something I took away from this were the questions you posed – I think that it allowed you to form a solid hypothesis.

Why does the air feel sticky/’wet’-like after it rains? After it rains it becomes very humid. The air feels stickier and heavier than normal – and gives a wet feeling to the skin. This is in contrast to when it does not rain. Another observation is that it is not the rain itself that gives the air this sticky wet feeling, rather it is something…[Read more]

Why does my coffee get cold over time/ why does my coffee not stay hot? After I prepare my coffee and pour it into my mug, it becomes cold over time. It does not get super cold (for example, it does not freeze) but it significantly cools down relative to when I first brew it in the coffee maker. Hypothesis: If the temperature in the air is…[Read more]

Hi, nice to meet you! I would like to learn more about the Oil and Gas industry but moreso from the business side of it — especially since that sector is evolving due to climate concerns. Very niche and cool interest.

Hey! Nice to meet you Rajwinder. I definitely agree with your point about getting credit while learning interesting facts about the earth. I feel that I never learned enough on the topic so I feel happy to have the time to study it now.
