CUNY Games Network

Visit our website at http://games.commons.gc.cuny.edu (or by clicking the Visit Blog link on the left).

We connect educators from every campus and discipline at CUNY who are interested in games, simulations, and other forms of interactive teaching. We seek to facilitate the pedagogical uses of both digital and non-digital games, improve student success, and encourage research and scholarship in the developing field of games-based learning.

Announcement by Maura A. Smale on 1/3/11

  • Dear Members of the CUNY Games Network,

To celebrate the holidays, we are hosting our very first full-day tabletop games event at LaGuardia College this month. Come for just a few hours or any portion of the day; we're not picky. We will be filling a half-dozen tables at the "Poolside Cafe" with games and good cheer (and ordering food there as well).

    Friday January 21st
    *11am to 8pm*
    Poolside Cafe
Located in "E" building (31-10 Thomson Avenue) (closest entrance to the 7 train subway stop at 33rd Street)

Some games that are likely to make an appearance: Settlers of Catan, Dominion, Illuminati, Knightmare Chess (a card-based modification to traditional chess), Battlestar Galactica, Lord of the Rings, Magic the Gathering, Star Wars Minis, Condottiere, Diplomacy (the game that began it all, for those in the know). Additionally, we may have a few teaching games (games created purely for instruction in a discipline). And finally, we will be given a short tour of the "Games Library" created at LaGuardia to help CUNY faculty examine games for research purposes.

If you intend to come, try to email [email protected] with your name to help us with a head-count (although please, still come if you were not able to email us!).

Directions to LaGuardia are below. We hope to see you there!

    Sincerely,

    Our Host, Christopher Jason Smith
And the CUNY Games Network Steering Committee: Joe Bisz, Maura Smale, Leah Potter, Francesco Crocco, Carlos Hernandez, Kathleen Offenholley, Lee Hachadoorian

How to Get to the Poolside Cafe

The room we will be using is the "Poolside Cafe" at the rear of "E" building. Once you enter the building take the left hallway and go straight ahead past the two courtyards through the atrium. The cafe is at the rear of the second courtyard which is called "Cobblestone" and across the hall from the indoor swimming pool. One may enter the cafe through the courtyard or from the hall by the pool. Security can also point the way.
