Hi, all. The issue of “embargoing” a dissertation (i.e. not posting it online for a set amount of time) is a separate issue from digital dissertations, but one that is certainly related. I heard that the GC history department has recently decided to require students to embargo their dissertations for two years. Does anyone have specific info on history or other departments that require it?
In related news, the Medieval Academy (an interdisciplinary organization) has recently encouraged embargoes while maintaining that it should ultimately be the student’s choice. Here’s the statement:
