Three recent (and excellent) essays by Randy Bass and Bret Eynon:

“New Media Technologies and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning” and

“Capturing the Visible Evidence of Invisible Learning” (both in the spring issue of *Academic Commons*: http://www.academiccommons.org/issue/january-2009)

    and

“We Need R&D for Teaching With Technology” (at the *Chronicle Online*: http://chronicle.com/wiredcampus/index.php?id=3650&utm_source=wc&utm_medium=en)

Thanks to George’s recent alert, let’s add Tony Picciano’s article on hybrid instruction:

“Blending with Purpose: The Multimodal Model,” in the April ’09 Journal of Asynchronous Learning Networks–http://www.aln.org/publications/jaln/index.asp

Part of Tony’s analysis features a summary of how specific technologies can meet specific learning objectives in the hybrid format. I’m constantly looking for ways to help faculty construct hybrid instructional schemes, which I’ve always believed are more challenging to design than fully online courses. This piece will be part of how we do our faculty development work at BCC this summer.
