Computing Integrated Teacher Education (CITE) @ CUNY
Computing Integrated Teacher Education is a four-year initiative to support CUNY faculty at all ranks to integrate state standards aligned computing content and pedagogy into required education courses, field work and student teaching. Supported by public funding from the New York City Department of Education (NYC DOE) Computer Science for All (CS4All) program and private funding from the Robin Hood Learning + Technology Fund, the initiative will focus on building on and complementing the success of NYCDOE CS4All and pilots to integrate computational thinking at Queens College, Hunter College and Hostos Community College.
The initiative focuses on:
– Supporting institutional change in teacher education programs
– Building faculty computing pedagogical content knowledge through the lens of culturally response-sustaining education
– Supporting faculty research in equitable computing education, inclusive STEM pedagogies, and effects on their students’ instructional practices

Thanks for pointing this out, Kirsten, and thanks, Mindi, for sharing the video! Next time we’ll try to locate resources for both Mac and PC, but for now, if you come up with any helpful resources, please share with the group.

I am Gelonia Dent, assistant professor of mathematics. In applied mathematics, technology integration is directly in research. I approach teaching using the scientific method, reflected in the final selection of the computing values game.
I followed the game’s directions and ended up with card numbers 26 (data literacy), 27 (selecting appropriate…[Read more]

In Learning Lab we have teacher candidates working with students in grades 6-12. This summer, Rhonda and I are looking to generate some activities that would be universally accessible, with frictionless entry to design and critical thinking, that will allow us to capture some aspects of problem solving and creativity as well as support teachers in…[Read more]

I am proficient with Microsoft Office. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Form, Teams are some of the tools I use frequently. I recently used Padlet in a presentation. I think it’s a good way to engage audience especially on Zoom. Today, I just opened a Canva account. It looks like one can be very creative and colorful with Canva presentation. I am…[Read more]

I found the Design Thinking for Educators a useful and detailed approach to a task I plan to embark on. However, I initially wanted to try out the Padlet to design the project but I found it was not the best fit for what I planned to do. However, I do plan on using it for other projects.
I ended up using Canva to create the design for a…[Read more]

I enjoyed exploring the different tools that are new to me for this activity. At first, I started tinkering with Loopy but didn’t like that I was not able to add pictures to my design.
I think Padlet will be my new “go to” design tool. I really like that you can add videos, audio, link documents and even Gifs to your design. I used the canvas…[Read more]

I think that if I created my own data set on Excel used that to create a Pivot table, my experience would have been much more meaningful — and perhaps easier! Suppose I wanted to create a spreadsheet of my yarn, by brand, color, weight, number of skeins, date purchased, where purchased, etc. Then I can manipulate the data in ways that are m…[Read more]

Hello!
I thought about the process of the Capstone Inquiry Project that my TESOL students complete throughout the semester. I was interested in the Liberatory Design Process and I tried to incorporate some of the language in my model. I used Google Slides, which I am not new to, but I wanted to figure out a way for my presentation to play on its…[Read more]

Here is my visualization of my design process: https://ncase.me/loopy/v1.1/
I never used Loopy, it looked fun. I played around with it. I explored Mido too, but this looked like more fun. There was no privacy policy for Loopy — the FAQ’s were cheesy. How do I send fan mail? I would want to know who owns the content, can remove it, etc. I s…[Read more]

I created a remix-ish of the Liberatory Design. I think the important aspects of Loopy were for me to demonstrate the ideas as fluid, changing, and always coming full circle to engage and empathy and Action. I think it was a little clunky – my idea that is, but the process of understanding how the thinking of Liberatory Design happens is impo…[Read more]

LOL I’ve also only ever used canva before for PTA – especially event invitations! What you have here is a lot more complex than anything I’ve done, I usually just remix Canva.

I was also thinking about the cyclical nature of course design, though I focused on the syllabus in particular. Yours is a lot more detailed – it’s great, very thoughtful! I see what you mean that Jamboard makes it tricky to show a cycle. The digital tool Inspiration you mention sounds like a good one to try, but too bad about the $$ (hate when…[Read more]

For better or worse, I did this one without reading yours first – I probably should have to get some great ideas! Ok so something I’ve been thinking about is the iterative process of syllabus design and redesign. Some years I just tweak a syllabus if my students and I think it’s working well and if it is still new, but every few years (maybe 3?) I…[Read more]

Hello,
I am Qiane Dolvin. I am an adjunct for the Early Childhood Dept at Hunter. I did not follow the written instructions. I created 3 groups of cards. The first group was for cards that do not align with my beliefs . The second group were “maybe” cards. The final group were all the beliefs I deemed important.
I then went through the maybe…[Read more]
