    At our April 24 meeting, Mosen suggested the CTL group emulate the Assessment Council’s practice of dedicating 30 minutes of each meeting to a faculty development topic. This sounds to me like a good way to “institutionalize” that important discussion within the meeting format. Here are some possible topics. Please add to or modify–they are intended only to start the conversation.

    –Outcomes assessment and course design
    –Pedagogy in developmental and gateway courses
    –Practical applications of learning theory (Bridging the Gap follow-up)
    –Programming for adjuncts. What works best?

    Here are some topics I would love to learn more about:

    –Teaching in a non-native language
    –The multicultural classroom
    –Demonstrating teaching effectiveness in reappointment/tenure/promotion

    (I really like the idea of using some of our meeting time for thematic discussions like this.)

    Thanks, Eva. My notion of how this might work is that the theme would be presented as a faculty development “problem”–a topic or area in which ideas about new and needed programming could be explored, or perhaps existing programming reviewed and shared.

    Hello everyone:

    This sounds like a great idea.

    A few suggestions:

    –working with library faculty (the challenges they face in presenting one time workshops, the teaching overlaps with discipline-based faculty)
    –mentoring of junior and adjunct faculty
    –informal faculty development (the interactions that happen in informal conversations, drop-in hours, etc.)
