I think registration opens Sept. 1

I can see from the comments feed at the bottom of the site that some people have already been responding at http://newyork2012.thatcamp.org/registration/ , but the page is password protected. Can’t help but wonder: is the password set to be released on 9/1, or is there an “early registration” that only insiders know about? (Or, the more logical explanation: there’s a “setting up and testing the registration page” that only primary organizers know about…)

Elizabeth Cornell, a grad student at Fordham and one of the organizers of THATCampNYC, tells me that the event needs volunteers. If you are interested in getting involved, please email Elizabeth at cornellgoldw@fordham.edu . It’s a good opportunity to see what goes into organizing an unconference and to get involved with this important event.

http://newyork2012.thatcamp.orgUnfortunately only a few sessions took minutes and put them in the Google Docs folder: http://bit.ly/TCNY2012
Summary of digital pedagogy session: https://t.co/EosDkPXS
Attending a THATcamp puts one in space where one wants to do more. To that end, a number of us were talking about resurrecting an idea of having some kind of across-the-board inter-institutional digital humanities group for New York. Some even mentioned that they have accounts here on the CUNY Commons. I hope it’s possible to keep the momentum going and to create some kind of ongoing forum for informing, sharing, and even a way to collaborate.

We do have one group like that already started, but it has flagged a bit and needs to be revived. To date, it has consisted mostly of people running DH initiatives at area institutions, but if the group is really going to thrive, I think we need to broaden the user base and engage a more open model of participation. The group was using the Commons to organize itself for a while.

A fair number of people are interested in getting something going – and I know if students were allowed to take part, that would probably carry a lot of the impetus and momentum. The librarians from NYU – who were just recently commanded to take charge of DH – felt like they had mountains of stuff to learn and thousands of students to communicate this knowledge to. Knowing there is some “center” of DH info, resources, people would be a great tool to involve all schools (and unaffiliated people).
Btw, is the space for this group still on the Commons somewhere?
