Digital Humanities Initiative

The CUNY Digital Humanities Initiative (CUNY DHI), launched in Fall 2010, aims to build connections and community among those at CUNY who are applying digital technologies to scholarship and pedagogy in the humanities. All are welcome: faculty, students, and technologists, experienced practitioners and beginning DHers, enthusiasts and skeptics.

We meet regularly on- and offline to explore key topics in the Digital Humanities, and share our work, questions, and concerns. See our blog for more information on upcoming events (it’s also where we present our group’s work to a wider audience). Help edit the CUNY Digital Humanities Resource Guide, our first group project. And, of course, join the conversation on the Forum.

    We’re delighted to announce our schedule of seminar meetings for the Fall 2011 semester, which are centered on the theme of “Digital Humanities in Practice.” We’ll be looking at specific instantiations of DH at CUNY, in libraries, in the classroom, and in graduate education.       Thanks, Matt — so many excellent-sounding events! Yet so many of them conflicting with other commitments I’ve made. Would it be possible to set up some kind of recording (ustream archive? Macaulay flip cam? audio podcast?) so that folks in my situation can enjoy vicariously, even when we can’t actually participate?

      Also, relatedly, is the English program really having a Friday Forum on Rosh Hashanah? Won’t the school be closed?

      Hi Ben,

      We will definitely look into video/ustreaming options. And thanks for the heads-up on the Rosh Hashanah conflict (oy!). The GC will be open, but no classes will be held. It looks like we’ll need to reschedule that event for the Spring.
