Junior Tidal replied to the topic Re-boot of this group / Covid changes to bike commuting on your campus? in the forum
bikeCUNY 1 year, 9 months ago
Hi Haruko. City Tech usually had full racks (we have two a CITI bike station on Jay St.) but since commuting to campus two days a week, I usually only see 1 and at most 2 other bikes locked up.
I imagine that we’ll have more full racks and that the CITI bike station will be used quite a bit in the spring. However, I also feel that it’s hard to…[Read more]

I read this the other day and found it incredibly invasive and disturbing. I feel like the only reason to SNSI would create such a plugin is to monetize the metadata (like so many other companies have done during the pandemic) collected from users. I believe boycotting those companies, much like the University of California has, is an appropriate…[Read more]

Hi all,
It’s that time of year again, with proposals open for the CUNY IT Conference, which is the end of November. More information here: https://cunyitconference.commons.gc.cuny.edu/
Unfortunately, I don’t have any ideas to present on. Do others? Would anyone like to work on a collaborative project?
Hope you’re all having a great…[Read more]

Since the theme of this year’s conference is Opening Access, I was thinking maybe we could do a presentation on accessibility/usability? Last week I had to change a lot of the forms on our website to conform with WC3 standards for accessibility. I thought this was a done deal since Bootstrap, the framework we use at City Tech and that is used in…[Read more]

Years ago I setup event tracking for eResources. It didn’t become useful until recently, when we converted all our proxied links to shortened URLs. It’s much easier to see what databases are being clicked on.

Junior Tidal replied to the topic Open Source Panel for the CUNY IT Conference in the forum
LACUNY Emerging Technologies Committee 7 years, 4 months ago
I was thinking it could be a panel of using open source technologies in CUNY Libraries. I believe it would be a good venue to showcase some cost-effective tech solutions.

Sounds good. Perhaps we can meet the week of the 20th?
I was thinking it could be a panel on how different open source soft/hardware is used in different CUNY libraries.

LACUNY Emerging Technologies Committee 8 years, 1 month ago
Hi all,
I created a proxyLinker form for our City Tech users – https://github.com/jtidal/citytechpermalinker
This simply adds our (City Tech) proxy prefix to a URL or DOI in a handy little form.
In the future, I would like to pair this with our link shortening API, so faculty can make short links to articles in our database.
It was hastily…[Read more]

Google has a site that can test whether a site is mobile compatible or not – https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/mobile-friendly/

Hi all,
I received this over the SEC4LIB listserv about phishing attempts using faux library emails. Some of these emails are well crafted compared to the usual phishing scams that I’ve seen.
