    Call for Participation

On Wednesday November 13, from 3-5pm, the Graduate Center’s Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) will host the “Assignment Remix,” an in-person event that blends workshop, working session, and community gathering. The goal of the event is to “remix” assignments to develop materials that enact inclusive learning strategies, and openly license these assignments so they can be shared and used by other instructors.

The Assignment Remix event will begin with a discussion of inclusive teaching methods and Open Educational Resources (OER), and then attendees will engage in a collaborative working session to remix and develop openly-licensed assignments. Attendees can choose to remix their own assignment, or work with an assignment submitted by their peers. The process for remixing assignments might include: revisiting and expanding assignment learning goals, updating content to include multiple perspectives, making the assignment more relevant for CUNY students, and/or expanding methods for completion to foster increased student agency. Light refreshments will be served at the event.

Remixed, openly licensed assignments will be added to the TLC’s Assignment Library and OpenEdCUNY.

    Eligibility

GC doctoral and master’s students who have taught or plan to teach undergraduate courses at CUNY are eligible and encouraged to participate.

    Funding

The TLC will pay up to 20 GC student instructors $100 each for participation in the Assignment Remix event. To receive funding, participation requires: registration, submitting an assignment before the event, attending the event, and sharing a remixed, openly licensed assignment after the event. Funds will be paid via a financial aid award.

    Registration

Complete this form to register for the Assignment Remix event: https://forms.gle/wt5xSSbtKaqaZVyy8.

    Assignment Submission

To participate in the event, after registering please submit an assignment that will be shared with other attendees at the event. Submitted assignments may be an assignment you have used in the past, one you plan to use in the future, or an assignment you found online that allows adaptations (for example, those found in OER repositories such as OpenEd and CORA).

Assignments should be submitted by tomorrow Tuesday, November 12, 2024.

Send assignment and questions to: Laurie Hurson (lhurson@gc.cuny.edu).
