Cement is the world’s second most used product after water and without it, modern construction is not possible. All of the skyscrapers you see in Manhattan and other megacities around the world wouldn’t be possible without cement. However, it contributes 5%-6% annually in Co2 emission. But as it is suggested in the article “Alternative Cement” volcanic ash, certain clays, finely ground limestone should be used instead to reduce emission. It could reduce as much as 440 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually. In my opinion, governmental laws and policies should be implemented to encourage the use of Alternative cement instead of the conventional cement.
