Hi All,
Thanks for all the enthusiasm! I need to note, though, that we’ve now run into a problem. When I called today to up the numbers from the RSVPs we had yesterday (10) to the numbers we have today (17 !), Joe and Pat’s told us that they would only up the reservation if we agreed to a minimum of $60 per person.
I told them in a few different ways how crazy that seemed to me, waxed on eloquently about the august pizza-eating tradition that CUNY Pie represents, and gestured towards the buzz that could be created from a positive CUNY Pie review. Sadly, they were unswayed and obstinate, so I cancelled the reservation.
We can still try to go there and take our chances on getting a table, but I, for one, have no desire to give our business to an establishment with policies like that. So, a few of us are now thinking hard, and quickly, about whether we can relocate tonight’s gathering. Suggestions welcome. To best accommodate those who already said they’d come, we’d need a place in the same general area, and ideally someplace large enough to seat such a large group.
Lombardi’s came to mind for me, but let’s all put our thinking caps on.
Best,
Matt

Hi fellow pizza-lovers 🙂
So sorry to hear that the restaurant is giving you a hassle Matt … that’s a huge bummer!
If it helps, I just won Shakespeare in the Park tickets for tonight (yay!), so Tim and I won’t be able to make it as planned. So that’s two less RSVPs, if that makes life any easier.
Sorry to miss you all. Have a wonderful time this evening, and fantastic summers! Hope to see you all soon 🙂
Cheers,
Jill -
If you do end up at Giuseppina’s I’ll be able to drop by (with littles) and

Sorry sounds like it’s been a lot of trouble. I’m going to Come by

Just to say: this was so much fun!! Huge thanks to Matt and Krysia for making it happen! Looking forward to next time – though Luke and Chris were talking about stuffing us all into a van and taking us somewhere in far NJ…
-
Great seeing folks at Arturo’s.
Have folks been to Una Pizza Napoletana? After seeing it reviewed today (with anchovies as the top recommended dish, but “all pizza” right on its heels), a friend did some sleuthing and confirmed rumors that the chef is opening a restaurant in Atlantic Highlands, NJ. If at some point down the line you find yourself in a strange van on the NJ Turnpike, rest assured that there should be some good pie at your destination.
-
I haven’t been to Una Pizza Napoletana yet, but it was on our shortlist for
our recent meeting! (I think it was too small, in the end.) This review is
great and I’d definitely like to go, either to the LES space or the NJ one!One important note: the anchovies are recommended as an appetizer, NOT as a
pizza topping, which is as it should be.Yours in steadfast anti-anchovy-piehood,
Matt
