    Hello everyone!

Welcome back from the Summer, and welcome all new students and new members
to the GIS / mapping working group. I’m happy to say we’ve reached 40
members in the group! We hope that you find in this group an opportunity to
learn & share about GIS news, tips, tools, events, or even to discuss about
your projects and get new perspectives.

Taking the opportunity of the upcoming GIS day (https://www.gisday.com)
(thanks Olivia for sharing the info), I was thinking perhaps it would be a
good idea to register an event for GIS day, and organize a meet-up to
share with the broader community the real-life GIS projects we are working
on, or even the project ideas we have.

Would this be something of interest to you? GIS day is on Wednesday
    November 14.

Looking forward to reading your thoughts, and if you’d be willing/available
to talk about your GIS project. or project ideas.

    Best,

    Javier

I think this is a great idea and would love to attend an event like this at The GC!

Thanks Damaly and Frank for your comments!

Javier and I decided to move ahead with planning the GIS day at the GC on the 14th. We’re going to have it after the jobs fair at Hunter, so it won’t conflict at all. Its going to be from 5-7. The first hour will be short presentations from students and faculty and the next hour will be an open discussion for those who want to bounce some of their ideas off of others in the GIS community.  Please let us know if you would like to present your research or if you know others who would like to present. We’ll share the official description that you can forward to your networks in the next few days.
