Digital Humanities Initiative

The CUNY Digital Humanities Initiative (CUNY DHI), launched in Fall 2010, aims to build connections and community among those at CUNY who are applying digital technologies to scholarship and pedagogy in the humanities. All are welcome: faculty, students, and technologists, experienced practitioners and beginning DHers, enthusiasts and skeptics.

We meet regularly on- and offline to explore key topics in the Digital Humanities, and share our work, questions, and concerns. See our blog for more information on upcoming events (it’s also where we present our group’s work to a wider audience). Help edit the CUNY Digital Humanities Resource Guide, our first group project. And, of course, join the conversation on the Forum.

Stephen King’s Wang: The Literary History of Word Processing – Dec. 16 at noon

Those familiar with Digital Humanities will probably know of Matthew Kirschenbaum from MITH (Maryland Institute for Technology in the Humanities) at the University of Maryland.

He’ll be giving a lunchtime talk at the New York Public Library (Schwarzman Building, 42nd Street) on Friday, December 16 at noon. His talk will be related to his forthcoming book, “Track Changes: Authorship, Archives, and Literary Culture After Word Processing.”

Thanks so much for posting, Bob! I’m very, very sorry to say that I can’t make it because of a schedule conflict, but if anyone is planning to go and would be interested in reporting back to this group, please either post here in the forum or on the CUNY DHI blog. And, if you don’t know him, Matt is a leader in DH whose first book, _Mechanisms: New Media and the Forensic Imagination_, is an important work for anyone interested in digital humanities and/or the materiality of digital media.
