WordPress HELP!!

This group is for neophytes to WordPress who are trying to use it as a Bbd alternative and have questions that “everyone knows” the answers to already. Except those who don’t. Quick answers to specific questions is what I envision here, so we can set up our courses without spending hours trying to find out a simple answer. Of course, we NEED EXPERTS in the group to actually answer the questions. All experts and neophytes please join this group!!

Embed a playlist

  • I have students make flash videos and would like to embed the playlist on my blog post. So the videos would play one by one automatically, or by clicking on the video icons. Is there a plugin? It doesn’t matter if it is a YouTube playlist plugin or a Vimeo playlist plugin, or some other websites.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Rowena,

I don’t know of one offhand, but please feel free to explore and let us know whether you find anything you’d like us to consider installing.

    Best,

    Matt

Hi Rowena – You might consider this one: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/swfobj/
Not sure if there are any performance or security issues with enabling swf file types on the Commons. Maybe include approximate file sizes in your request, so Boone can evaluate. Thanks!

Thanks, Mat. I will try to find one.

Thanks, Scott. Let me try this one.

i am trying to embed a swf file string onto my blog to show video that is only available via that type code — i installed “Kimili Flash Embed” widget but still can’t get the video to embed.

i looked at the post here for guidance: http://codex.commons.gc.cuny.edu/2012/02/05/embedding-video-using-wordpress-3-3/

but there is no option to auto-embed for me in the Settings>>Media area.

i had hoped there might be a similar convention to [youtube=URL] but obviously not, right? 🙂

Hi Erika – I remember we installed a couple plugins for swf files – and I think the one that worked the best was called “wordTube”. Can you give that one a shot. Or if you want to provide the url of the swf file, I can play around with some of the others to see if I can get to play.

Hi Scott, Thanks for pointing me to this widget. I tried the wordTube plugin but it won’t let me paste the code from the website into the posting.

the link is contained on this page: http://video.pbs.org/video/2273015711

i tried posting the code here but it just translates the code into two links — this forum can’t display flash video either… 🙂

    Hi Erika –
I took a look at the embed code and it doesn’t really provide access to the swf file. But I did notice that the PBS trailer is available on both youtube and on Vimeo. The Vimeo link is http://vimeo.com/59756226
You can just paste this into your post or page, on a new line, and it should embed automatically.

    Hope this helps.
