    If you haven’t already heard about the upcoming MobilityShifts Conference (http://mobilityshifts.org/), I thought I’d point out there are a few panels/presentations that might be of interest to OA advocates, like John Willinksy’s talk, “Open Access As The New School: The Practicalities of Campus Public-Good Policies” which will happen on Thursday, Oct. 15.

      I’m talking on a panel Thursday evening at 630. I will be talking about my experiments with having students do their visual and textual exercises *on* wikipedia: creating illustrations and writing articles.

      This panel looks at the opportunities and challenges of learning in the digital commons, where learners study open materials and contribute original work back as part of their learning experience. This particular model requires learners to see themselves as both students and teachers. Panelists will share their own experiences as teachers and learners, working in an array of educational institutions.

      Michael will look at the benefits and difficulties of teaching with Wikipedia, where students are asked to contribute original writing and creative works to the project. The focus of the projects presented are visual creative arts, but the principles can be applied more broadly.
