    Writing for the Social Sciences

Mabel Sosa commented on the post, Discussion Post #7 - Jennifer Guallpa

I like your topic and think it’s important now in day. The only thing I will say is that your question could be clearer, the wording is a bit confusing.

Your question could be answered with a yes or a no, so you might want to rephrase it. I think you’re topic is really great because it’s relevant currently, so the information is probably recent.

Mabel Sosa commented on the post, Jose Orellana: "Shitty First Draft"

I really like how you explain that it’s not just the writers fear of not having a perfect first draft but it’s their fear that the reader won’t like their work. I didn’t really think about that before, how writers […]

Mabel Sosa commented on the post, Response to “Shitty First Draft” by Carla Garcia

I like how you compared the reading to the previous time we had read it in our FIQWS class. I agree that although it’s the same text we got different things from it because the class is about different things.

I also liked how the characters interacted, I think it’s what made the story so great. I found interesting that the reading didn’t remind you of anything, I think it might correlate to something but you might not remember it.

Mabel Sosa commented on the post, Response for Mama Day by Loreidy Taveras

I like how you noticed the repetition in her writing, I think it was obvious but it’s important to highlight that. I also liked how you related the reading to Shakespeare, I don’t think anyone would have thought of that

Mabel Sosa commented on the post, Starbucks Observation- Loreidy Taveras

I like how you address why the people were there, like the free WiFi. I think it was also important that you analyzed the workers and not just the customers.

I like how you decided to observe a pumpkin patch field because that is where most people are now that Halloween season is approaching us. I also like that you already knew what some of the people were doing just […]

I like how you start of your response by stating, how the piece made us as the readers feel and how the writer of the piece did such a good job writing the piece. Your transitions from one topic to another were […]

Mabel Sosa commented on the post, Solange Response - Ramandeep Kaur

I really liked the language you used to describe how Mathis is creating an image for Solange. Throughout your response you don’t use a lot of “she said” and “they said” language which allows your response to just flow.

I really admire your use of higher level words. I like how you summarized the text and still managed to answer the questions given to us. I think it was also really smart of you to add the how the fieldworkers can […]

I agree with your statement saying “Certain bad experiences can spark bad reactions that make society worse”. However, I’m a very big believer in gray areas and think that this concept depends a lot on the person […]

Mabel Sosa commented on the post, Summary and Analysis of M.L.K's Speech.

I really liked how you worded the summary part of your post. You didn’t just use “he says” and “he writes about” but instead found other words to express how King actually felt about the situations. I found your […]
