Advance planning for a technical solution is the type of issue that seems worth bringing to your attention. This one applies to a library’s future purchases of printers. It may be prudent to consider only buying […]
The Aleph Item Process Status (IPS) in Aleph is sometimes misunderstood, as it is sometimes (but not always) more than a display field. The functionality built into some of the IPS is complex, so it will probably […]
If your plans include using any batch processes for removing lost items records, please consider first removing titles that are suppressed with an Item Process Status of “LO” or “LP.” We can use a batch process […]
Moving away from Aleph to a Library Services Platform requires preparation BEFORE data migration. One important pre-migration goal is to separate print items and electronic items out at the title level.
This is the second part of synchronizing your Collections with your Circulation Policy. This work comes after you have begun as described in my previous blog post:
The (CUNY Libraries’) Data Migration Task Force is now recommending that libraries work on cleaning up our existing Course Reserves / Reserves this summer. This should be done before we set up our Test LSP […]

Libraries are now working on clean-up of Serials order records. An open serials record not attached to a Bibliographic record is not going to have a clear purpose when we eventually migrate. It is also unclear […]
CUNY’s migration to a Library Services Platform (“LSP”) will provide unified services across the library. It will be a long journey, and we will be building up information for our roadmap as we reach different […]
Following a comment from a campus, we were able to improve functionality in OneSearch by increasing patron account checks for renewability.* What does this mean for you? Items on loan that are not renewable […]
Just a quick FYI. We have begun removing patron identifying information from the CUNY Aleph catalog. Please see your local Access Services manager for details.
Did you know? The Aleph GUI can notify Access Services staff when patrons check out an item with an incorrect item processing status (IPS). Let Aleph do more to help patrons have an accurate description of an […]
‘Tis the season for libraries to receive larger invoices (from EBSCO and others). This is just a quick reminder that Aleph can batch load inbound electronic invoices.
I would suggest varying the frequency based on the urgency of projects at hand. For example, meet quarterly keeping open the option to increase the frequency as needed.
