Letter of Introduction Project ReflectionFrom writing this assignment, I was able to reflect upon how I can introduce myself to somebody who has no prior experience with me. Previously, my main communication, if not all my communication, was with instructors who had known me in class, known my abilities, and had interacted with me. For this assignment, we had to create a pitch for ourselves, and talk about our meaningful professional experiences with others, to show where we came from and what we can bring to the table.  Likewise, writing this letter highlighted to me the importance each prior internship brings to the table. All experience we get in the professional field helps us show to others that we know how to apply what we learn and study in class. It allows us to stand out, and gain an edge over others in competitive positions. Many of our internships and experiences seem to be confined to one specific situation, and one niche, however they also bring broader general skills, knowledge, and problem-solving abilities. Being able to recognize those benefits in our professional experience can allow us to understand how prepared we are for upcoming internships.  Another important lesson we learned from this writing experience is the importance of connecting with the internship or job one is applying to. Many people, as we saw in our visual presentations, share the same experiences as us, graduated high school and completed extracurricular activities within their schools. Despite this, people have different interests and passions, and resonate with different companies. Companies want to see that their potential client has a true interest in what their company does, and want to know that their prospective employee will bring meaningful, real, benefit to the company, and be motivated to push the extra mile.  From this assignment, we also were able to read other people’s letters, give them feedback, and receive feedback. This allowed us to understand others’ opinions and styles of writing. For example, within my writing, I did not address a specific person within the company, while one of my peers did. This made me consider it, and how such an address may bring benefit to my letter. It would demonstrate to the company that I did my research, and know whom I am addressing, instead of generally addressing the entire company.  Overall, this writing assignment allowed me to broaden my horizons in thinking about how I prepare or apply for an internship, and more generally, introduce myself to others and convey meaning […] “Letter of Introduction Project Reflection”

Letter of Introduction ProjectJahsh Kaushal Flushing, NY [email protected] (646) 916 0012 Dear Department of Environmental Protection,  I am writing to express my interest in the Civil Engineering Internship. My name is Jahsh Kaushal, and throughout high school and college, I have extensive experience in fields relating to that which your company specializes in, and I feel my values align with that of your company’s. Since I went to a specialized high school, I was able to gain many experiences in the field of engineering. One project I completed in high school was dis-assembling and modeling a headlamp in Autodesk. This allowed me to see for myself how products are put together, and allowed me to gain vital experience in understanding and using Autocad. Throughout high school, I also participated in an internship with the Department of Construction and Design, in the ACE mentorship program. Through this project we got to meet real architects and engineers and benefit from their experience. We had to create an Urban Revivalist project, where we transformed a decaying city space. Through this project, we also were able to learn how to estimate costs, develop a pitch, and zoning regulations. We delved into the city’s infrastructure and, as relates to your company, how to decrease our carbon footprint and engage in sustainable practices. In high school, I also opted to take classes in Architecture, where I learned the process of designing a building, and how to use Revit. We then learned how to present our ideas to others, and “sell” the building we had designed. We learned about structural requirements and had to work around them.  I feel that my goals and your company’s goals are closely aligned, and we share the same values. I grew up in New York City, and thus fully benefited from all the amenities and infrastructure the city puts up for its residents. When I was younger, I did not put any thought into how these infrastructures were planned, or the considerations given to them. Now that I have experience in the field of Civil Engineering, as I am pursuing my Bachelors, I understand the level of oversight needed to implement these infrastructures. Projects have to use environmentally friendly materials, need to understand scale, and need to be maintained properly. I find it fascinating how millions of New Yorkers have running, clean, drinkable water, and reliable means to dispose of waste. Keeping this system functioning is vital for New Yorkers, and I would love to be a part of it.  Jah […] “Letter of Introduction Project”
