Hi everyone,

I’ve installed the Twitter Tools plugin on the CUNY Games Network site and it seems to be only partially working. I’ve gotten it to display our tweets in the site sidebar (http://games.commons.gc.cuny.edu/), but I can’t seem to get it to post to Twitter when we add a new post on the blog.

I followed all of the initial directions to set up the account with the Consumer Key, Consumer Secret, Access Token, and Access Token Secret, and set the Options to create a tweet from every blog post, but still no dice (ha!).

I guess I’m wondering if anyone else has been successful in getting Twitter Tools to tweet new blog posts? I’m happy to experiment with other alternatives, but I want to be sure it’s not just something with the Games Network Twitter account.

Hi Maura,

We used to have the CAC News blog set up this way, but I just took a look at the forum for the Twitter Tools plugin and it appears that others are experiencing the same problem. It seems that the application registration process has changed and you have to go back into your twitter tools setting to make sure that the Application Type has read and write access (http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-twitter-tools-it-works-make-sure-twitter-application-has-read-and-write-access). I’ll go ahead and test it out on one of my sandbox blogs and let you know if I have any success.

Hi Maura,

I was able to get it to tweet by adjusting the Application Type when registering the app on Twitter. I guess just one more layer in a pretty arduous registration process. Also, I’m not sure if you’ve activated the bit.ly URL’s for Twitter Tools, but if you wanted to save some characters I would recommend.
