Transformative Learning in the Humanities

Transformative Learning in the Humanities is a three-year initiative supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The grant supports public talks, symposia, and workshops as well as a series of intensive peer-to-peer faculty seminars for CUNY faculty at all ranks (including adjuncts) in the humanities, arts, and interpretive social sciences. The program focuses on equitable, creative, student-centered pedagogical research and methods designed for the rich diversity of CUNY students; greater recognition for the importance of teaching; and the role of an urgent and indispensable humanities for the future of CUNY students and a more just and equitable society.

  • TLH Transformative Speakers: Ly Tran, 3/28 (Zoom) + Tracie Morris 4/27 (CUNY GC)

    Dear Colleagues,

We hope you’ll join us for the final two events in our Transformative Speaker Series:

Universality in Specificity: A Conversation with Ly Tran About Language, Identity, and Love
    Tuesday, March 28, 4:30-5:30pm (Zoom)

In this interview and interactive workshop, Ly Tran speaks about the transformative power of mining universality in the specific, and of resisting society’s pressures to conform to monolithic narratives that ultimately serve to disempower and dehumanize. Ly will read a brief excerpt from her memoir and will join Khanh Le in a discussion about the power of language, covering topics such as intergenerational trauma, education, and diversity in the literary landscape.

Accessibility: ASL interpretation and live CART transcription will be provided.
