Transformative Learning in the Humanities

Transformative Learning in the Humanities is a three-year initiative supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. The grant supports public talks, symposia, and workshops as well as a series of intensive peer-to-peer faculty seminars for CUNY faculty at all ranks (including adjuncts) in the humanities, arts, and interpretive social sciences. The program focuses on equitable, creative, student-centered pedagogical research and methods designed for the rich diversity of CUNY students; greater recognition for the importance of teaching; and the role of an urgent and indispensable humanities for the future of CUNY students and a more just and equitable society.

Call for Proposals: Teaching Matters 2022-23

  • Dear Colleagues,

The CUNY Innovative Teaching Academy (CITA) is calling for proposals for its 2022-2023 Teaching Matters peer-to-peer workshop series.

In 2021, the CUNY Innovative Teaching Academy kicked off a new and virtual teaching workshop series called Teaching Matters. This series is a monthly, free, one-hour summit of CUNY faculty and staff devoted to sharing innovative teaching strategies and student-centered learning methods. Each gathering includes a focused, interactive and engaged peer-to-peer workshop, and a few practical teaching tips that can be used in any classroom. The workshops are coordinated, supported and promoted by the Innovative Pedagogy Working Group in the Central Office of Academic Affairs.

Thus far 2,200 faculty and staff at CUNY have engaged in this series. Past topics have ranged from universal design to mindset to the pedagogy of kindness.

To ensure that these conversations can continue, we are asking for proposals to contribute to the Teaching Matters series in the 2022-23 academic year. Proposals will considered on a rolling basis, but submissions received before August 1 will receive priority consideration for the fall 2022 Teaching Matters schedule. To propose a session, please complete this form.

Proposals are welcome from all faculty, instructors, and staff at all CUNY campuses. Also, if you have a colleague whose teaching or instructional support work inspires you, we’d appreciate it if you would encourage them to apply.

Thanks again for your early engagement with CITA’s offerings, and we hope to welcome you in the fall as a participant, presenter or both!

    Best wishes,

The CUNY Innovative Teaching Academy Team
