PUG – Python User’s Group

Python User’ Group (or PUG for short) is an open and informal collaborative space for experimentation and exploration with the Python programming language. It is an opportunity for those interested in Python to work together virtually and find support. Whether you are looking for advice or assistance with new or current projects, looking to discuss and learn new skills using Python tools, or to join us to play around with our collection of sample datasets, PUG is your place!

PUG is open to people of all skill levels, disciplines, and backgrounds. Complete beginners to Python will find a place here. Come, and let’s learn together.

PUG is cosponsored by the MA in Digital Humanities / MS in Data Analytics and Visualization programs and the Mina Rees Library.

PUG will be back soon! Please answer mini-survey

  • Dear PUG people,

I hope you’re all doing fine, all things considered.

We are planning to go back to do activities in the Python User’s Group in some online form (most likely Zoom, but we can discuss alternatives). Before the break, we were working on the exercises from Learn Python the Hard way, everyone in their own pace. We can go back to do that, but also have some mini-workshops, collaborative coding, and occasionally just hanging out, drinking a glass of wine while talking about Python things.

Please answer our mini-survey so we can get a sense of what you would like to do with PUG during the quarantine. By the way if you’re new to PUG or to Python, this is a great moment to join!

One thing we’ve realized is that the experiences and struggles of the self-isolation can be vastly different for each one of us. Some people are taking the opportunity to invest in projects they have been delaying; advancing your Python skills can be a great one. Others unfortunately cannot do the same.

We want you to feel welcome to participate as much or as little as makes sense for you and your current situation, and during this break, the GC Digital Fellows have been experimenting with various platforms to help us continue to meet as a group and work on different projects at different paces simultaneously. If you can/want to, we will be thrilled to have you with us.

    Best,
    Rafa
