Italian 331: Phonetics and Diction
Phonetics and diction will be practiced and improved through cultural content including: poetry, song, theatre, rhymes and tongue-twisters. This content integrated approach exposes students to cultural and linguistic aspects of different time periods, regions, and dialects. The class will be conducted ONLY in Italian and will meet twice per week in person (unless NY state, CUNY, Hunter College, or the Romance Language Department mandate otherwise. Most of the classes will be divided in:
1. Lecture on a given topic
2. Listening and dictation
3. Speaking and pronunciation
4. Exercises and peer reviews
Students will be asked to record themselves speaking on given topics and then transcribe their own voice. In class, you will be divided in groups to work on your oral presentations.
