Reflection Essay 3

This assignment has been both fun and a little stressful in many ways. The thing that was fun was creating my own commercial. It’s something I never did before and was so interesting putting all the images together and using my audio for the first time. It felt stressful at the same time because it was my first time doing a commercial and making sure all the images were showcased correctly.

In short assignment 1 we were asked to choose and write on various genres to use that best suits my audience. The short assignment 2 was on audience strategy which was the most important because this was about how we would use our genres that we picked in order to send a message to my audience. Personally I picked both a commercial and a train station poster. My plan was to use the same strategy as the Fast food restaurants and that was to use their platforms against them. When choosing a commercial as a genre  I thought it would only make sense to put a 40 second commercial that would catch people’s attention. The train poster genre was perfect because at one point most of us use the train for a cheap ride, so seeing a  creative poster will definitely catch one’s attention while waiting for the train or walking by. What was also very important was my stance, when I was doing my stance in my research essay it was more broad because there was much more data on different races such as hispanic/latino which also was affected by Fast foods, but for this assignment I needed to be more specific in my stance and state who exactly was being mostly targeted and it was black people and low income people. Lastly for the rhetorical situation was the best part which worked very well with my genres because I was able to connect the pieces together. I thought about the relationship with low income people and train stations. Low income people are targeted because Fast foods are sold for low prices so inputting posters in a train station is the easiest way for most people to see. Especially the purpose and medium , my purpose was to inform and showcase who Fast food companies target and the harms of their products, this helped with my medium which was in the form of a commercial because especially since covid started most people will be staying at home watching tv.

Ultimately my experience in this project required me to think more critically than before because it required me to be very specific in everything I did whether it was my audience or my genre. It required me to use my audience as the center of the composition essay. This is because my audience affected how I presented my genres and how I would communicate with them. This project allowed to me be creative and to think very critically which made it both challenging and entertaining at the same time.
