Sasha Miller Roger Hart Child and Youth Studies 10.4.2017 Draft of methods I will be writing a comparison literature review using different scholarly articles highlighting the different implications and effects of youth employment on impoverished teenagers. I will focus on those who are doubly marginalized by their identities (black, brown, and immigrant youth). I will also highlight youth employment and its effects on academic success and general development. I have not found much but I would hopefully like to find research on how steady and consistent employment can changes a teen’s perception of familial responsibility and independence. I will be mainly looking at research concerning teenagers from the legal age of employment to 19 years old. Below are some sources I’ve already found: Lee JC, Staff J. When Work Matters: The Varying Impact of Adolescent Work Intensity on High School Drop-out. Sociology of Education. 2007;80:158–178. Bills DB, Helms LB, Ozcan M. The impact of student employment on teachers’ attitudes and behaviors toward working students. Youth and Society. 1995;27:169–193. Mortimer, J. The Benefits and Risk of Adolescent Employment Mortimer JT. Working and Growing up in America. Cambridge: Harvard University Press; 2003. Mortimer JT, Staff J. Early work as a source of developmental discontinuity during the transition to adulthood. Development and Psychopathology. 2004;16:1047–1070. Steinberg LD, Fegley S, Dornbusch SM. Negative impact of part-time work on adolescent development. Developmental Psychology. 1993;29:171–180. Steinberg LD, Cauffman E. The impact of employment on adolescent development.
