Through movement exploration, observation, replication and recall, students develop kinesthetic and self-aware-ness; understand dance concepts; and build fine and large motor skills. They invent dance movements to create their own short dances; learn basic vocabulary of various dance forms and simple dances; reflect upon their own and others’ work; and understand the purpose, routine and behavior of a dance class.
Performing Arts -Standard 1: Creating, Performing, and Participating in the Arts Students will actively engage in the processes that constitute creation and performance in the arts (dance, music, theatre, and visual arts) and participate in various roles in the arts.

Dance Objectives: At the end of this activity the students will:
Perform dance movements while listening to the beat of the music.
Move in personal space
Identify rhythmic pattern
Dance Concept: Sequence movement

Lesson Sequence
• Today we are going to learn how to learn some new dance movements to a very familiar song to practice moving to the beat of the music. Are you all happy? This dance is going to get us in the mood for 4th of July celebrations
Have students spread out at arm’s length space between them
• First model each move then have students move with you, repeat about 3 times before adding the music.
• Play the music and do movements to the beat timely and invite students to move to the beat with you. Praise students efforts as they dance along.
• Have students model for each other as they gain mastery of moves.
Description of movement
Move to the Right to left, left to right, feet together clap 2 times
2 Steps forward 2 steps backward, wiggle twice
2 steps forward 2 steps backward, wiggle
Jump around in circle to right 4 times, then to left 4 times
March on the spot 8 times, and then roll hands 4 times forward 4 times backward.
Dance to the right on 4 counts, to the left 4 counts.
Assessment: The teacher observe how well students stay on the beat an move rhythmically
Modification Students with Special Needs could perform fewer movements.
