Please join us on 3/15/11 at 3:30pm at BMCC for a workshop on accent reduction for faculty and staff. Let me know if you can make it.
Here is Professor Spatafora’s description of her workshop and approach:
Learning to pronounce words in English properly can be a difficult procedure for many adults, and the need to communicate in a clear manner is usually limited to, in many cases, a foreign background. In the work force where personnel tend to be multiethnic and multi-lingual, oral communication is often marked by mispronunciation and syntactical errors, making it difficult to understand the speaker. Communicating with proficiency and ease helps to build self-esteem and confidence. We learn to speak when we are young and we learn from heredity and environment. By learning to use our tongue-teeth-palate-lips and air in new ways, you, too, can learn to pronounce the words in the English language properly. This workshop will help professors and educators help their students.
Thank you,
Tori Mondelli
