Should We Make This a Public Group

Right now, this group is private (you must request membership and you can’t view any content here until you are accepted). I don’t know if anything we are going to talk about is so sensitive or top-secret that it merits making this group private. Anyone else have thoughts about this?

I think we should make it a public group. I’m all for openness and transparency.

Is there anyone else who thinks it’s OK to make this group public? I’m assuming that means it would get indexed by Google and other search engines.

Sounds good to me. [joke] It’s not like we’re discussing anything that would trigger a PRISM Warning. [/end joke]

I just changed the settings to Public. Apparently, the only difference is now anyone who already has an account on the CUNY Academic Commons can join the group without having to be approved. If you’re not logged in to the Commons, you can’t see any of the posts on the forum (not what I expected). This also probably means that our comments on the forum are not being indexed by search engines.
