Listenin’ to the City CCNY/CWE

The aim of this group is to explore ‘listening’ as part of a journalistic practice. Our members have actively listened to local organizations throughout the city and work on a digital project to document their experiences through expository and creative writing, audio/video recordings and photography.

    My father is everything to me. In August 2020, at the height of the pandemic, he was admitted all alone to the Isabella Geriatric Center in the Heights – NYC. Luckily, Isabella provided 24/7 Face-Time day and night. The nursing staff were with him every step of the way. Isabella kept him safe and illness free. As an Octogenarian, Dad is receiving the tender loving care he deserves while he battles with dementia. Even when he has moments of lucidity, my father has said to me, “Everyone at Isabella treats me so well.” It makes me happy to know he is being well taken care of.

      Both my mother and sister received care at the Isabella Center, too! During my mother’s recovery time at the center, she received exceptional support from the dedicated staff, allowing her to continue pursuing her passion for word searches, reading, cooking, and basically sharing her zest for life and virtues with others, as well as her inextinguishable passion for sharing her profound knowledge as an educator. My sister is a strong, smart, independent woman with a quiet personality just like our father, as well as a devoted daughter with a determined mindset to getting better. Following her surgery, she was left with chronically ill Covid-19 side effects, traumatized, and severely debilitated. But with Isabella’s intensive protocols, she was soon back on her feet and back to work. The rehabilitation and nursing care my family received far exceeded any expectations I had. This is definitely the place to be if you want to receive great care, outstanding therapy, and back to your life.
