How can I embed a Powerpoint presentation on Academic Commons?
I tried to follow the instructions but was not successful. I have the embed code from the online PPT.

I added a new post and used the classic editor and pasted the code in text as instructed.
What I get is this sentence.

Hi Van – For security reasons, the Commons does not allow iframes. Can you try to install the “Embed Anything” plugin and just use the sharepoint URL and see if that works?

Hi Van:
I don’t entirely understand the context in which you are trying to display the PPT files, but for displaying them on an ordinary WordPress page, this will work.
Save the PPT as a pdf, then open the pdf in Photoshop and convert each pdf page to a JPG. JPGs can be embedded in a WordPress page easily. That is how I post articles to a page.
When you open the pdf in Photoshop, each page will be displayed in the dialog box that appears. Set the “Crop Box” option to “Crop Box” (if it isn’t already), then select all the pages at once by selecting the first page, then pressing “Shift” while clicking on the last page.
After selecting all the pages, adjust the settings for the pages, including desired width and height (be sure “Constrain Proportions” is selected), and resolution (300 dpi gives me about a 500 Kb JPG), etc. Then hit OK. (Don’t do the settings before selecting them all or you will only by adjusting the settings for one page.)
Each page will be opened in a separate Photoshop window. Then just save each page as a JPG. Embed the JPGs in the WordPress page in order and you have displayed your PPT pages on a WordPress page.

I did a method similar to John, but using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, and was fine with doing it this way as a solution. Thanks!

Hi John,
Thank you for the suggestion. I did something similar:
1. Using Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, I exported the PDF as JPEG. It will create individual slides.
2. I went to my Academic Commons page and added the “Slideshow” block.
3. I selected all images (Ctrl +A) and dragged them into the block. The slides were uploaded and stored in the Media Library.
4. I added the slide number in the caption of each slide.Here’s the page: https://lagccnsdoer.commons.gc.cuny.edu/lab-safety/
The problem with this method is that the slides work fine using Firefox but not with Chrome. Any thought as to why it will not work with Chrome? Thanks!

Hi Van –
I think the Commons needs to write a custom embed handler for OneDrive to make things easier. I will put in a request for that and let you know when it will be available.
In the meantime, I have two suggestions.
- This is a long-shot. I see you are using Jetpack. In the past, when Chrome is not working and Firefox is, I’ve gone to the Performance tab in Jetpack. Under Performance and Speed, I make sure all, including Lazy loading are active. Then see if Chrome is behaving any better. Like I said, it may not make much of a difference. See attached screenshot.
- You have a valid .ppt file in OneDrive. Can you download it to your local machine. Then in the Block Editor, there is a block called “Document” (created by the “Embed Anything” plugin.) I see that you have that plugin activated. Can you follow the instructions for that block and upload the ppt file from you local machine. I would think that this will work.

I tried the second suggestions and was successful, but only if the file is no more than 10MB. It is quite nice and work across all browsers and devices.
When I first uploaded the file (12MB) I got a message that the size was too large. I clicked the learn more link which took me to

I searched this message and found a discussion with a MS Office rep who stated that the upload size limit is 10 MB. So I tested with less than 10 MB and it worked!
I followed your suggested steps:
1. Uploaded PPT (less than 10MB) to the Media Library.
2. Used the document block. Selected the file from Media Library. I applied these settings: w 100% h 100%, show downlink for all users, download text: download and viewer: Microsoft Office online
I will probably adjust the w and h because the slides are more rectangle than square.
I have not tried the first method and will explore this later. Thank you for your help on this and putting in a request for a custom embed handler from OneDrive.
