Elsevier signs DORA, moves to make citations openly available

After years of turning down requests from initiatives like I4OC, Elsevier has committed to making their citation data openly available via CrossRef and has signed the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). I’m still wrapping my head around the implications of this move, and hope that SPARC’s consultant can help us place this within the context of the landscape analyses they conducted in 2018 and 2019.

Good press for Elsevier because the OA movement has truly become ubiquitous and the low cost of bread-crumbing of citation data will eventually lead to an appetite for full-text?
