Deputy Director, Digital Initiatives

Lisa Marie Rhody is Deputy Director of Digital Initiatives and Director of Digital Fellowship Programs at the CUNY Graduate Center, where she is also an affiliated faculty member in the Liberal Studies, Digital Humanities, Data Analysis and Visualization, Comparative Literature, and the Interactive Technology and Pedagogy Certificate programs. She co-directs DHRIFT (dhrift.org), an open-source, open educational resource publishing platform for digital humanities and was Principal Investigator and Director of the twice NEH-funded Digital Humanities Research Institute. Currently, she serves as co-chair of the Modern Language Association’s AI and Research Working Group. Lisa is co-editor with Susan Schreibman of Feminist Digital Humanities: Intersections in Practice (2025).

Previously, Lisa was Associate Director of Research Projects at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media at George Mason University, where she served as editor-in-chief of Digital Humanities Now and the Journal of Digital Humanities. In her current book project, Reading Against Models, Lisa proposes human-centered strategies for reading and interpreting how LLMs and GenAI encode and operationalize dominant narratives. She has a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in English Language and Literature and is completing an M.L.S. at Queens College. She is a published poet, and her scholarship has appeared in differences: A Journal of Feminist Cultural StudiesDebates in the Digital HumanitiesWhat We Talk About When We Talk About DH, and PMLA.
