Karolayn Sosa

(she/her)

Hi, my name is Karolayn. I’m currently a freshman at the City College of New York. I’m considering biology as my major. I am a first-generation born and raced in the Dominican Republic, proud of my racial background. I have been involved in high school activities, such as bilingual clubs and community services which included giving out clothes and food to people in need. While also working in internships at the presbyterian clinics in New York, which gave me a bigger view of the medicine field and the different ways you could be included in it. I also had family caregiving activities in which I would have to take care and help out with my little cousins and brother. Through this, I built skills in being responsible and open minded when it comes to people and the way to manage my learning and timing. I am attending college because I want to become a general surgeon and make my family proud for which I will need all the learning I could get from my science major and med-school afterwards.  Something important to me is my happiness and mental peace because without them I wouldn’t be able to correctly learn while also enjoying life. I would be interested in learning more about what it really means to be a general surgeon and ways to succeed at it.
