Week 13 Assignment: HTML 2Week 13 Assignment For the most part, I spent a lot of time practicing on the HTML tutorial website and going over the exercises and was able to figure out how to do the proper coding to do the assignments correctly. It has been a good and fun yet challenging experience to deal with basic coding to create a web page. The only issue that I have encountered was for the week 13 assignment, I had a hard time figuring out how to properly insert an image at the top of my web page from my images saved on my computer. I believe I am having issues with how I saved it on my computer and I am not inputting the proper path finder information for the image to be found in the right place where it comes up on my web page. At this point, I was not able to figure it out. I will keep working on it to fix it. UPDATE: With the help of Professor Li, I was able to upload the image onto the server in the same folder as the week 12 and week 13 assignments. Then I wrote for the source code “BigNightSky.jpg” with the alternate name being “Big Night Sky” and made sure that the week 13 assignment was properly uploaded on the server. I confirmed by copying and pasting the link in a separate tab to show that theRead more“Week 13 Assignment: HTML 2”

Social Media Evaluation Project 2 The Facebook account that I chose to do my second social media evaluation project on is the New York Public Library’s Mulberry Street Library, which is located at 10 Jersey St, New York, NY 10012. This Facebook page has been around since March 15th, 2010 and seems to have a good community following. Let us start off first on the positives of this page. They are frequently posting every other day. One of the pieces of information that they are posting are upcoming events going on at their library. For example, this past Saturday, November 4th, 2023, they posted about some events going on for children to take part in, where they listed the events with the day and times included, they specified what age group the program is dedicated to that day, and an adorable child friendly design representing the events happening that day. Another positive in regards to their posts is that they seem to be socially aware and try to stay up to date in what is going on in the world. Some examples of them posting about their recent and upcoming bookclubs. This past Saturday, November 4th, 2023, they had a book club for a book called Nightwood by Djuna Barnes’ that discusses LGBT+ literature that is a historical piece. Another positive for this page is how they include all their information regarding their library on their intro page. They have the address, the phone number for the library, their website to links to the library’s page, and their hours on what days and times they are open at. It seems like a fairly good Facebook page for this library, but there most certainly can be some improvements for this page to get more popular and get more of a following for people to come and see the library. Although 1.1k followers is a good amount of followers to have, the fact that their account has been around for 13 years, I feel that they could improve on making their account more popular so they can receive more of a following. Firstly, they do a good job at showing their events that are going on at the library, but I think if they included more of incentives to bring people into their events to stand out more than other libraries, I think that would be a great place to start. If they included maybe snacks or food to bring people to the book clubs, that could be a good idea. Another thing is that I noticed that they do not receive any likes or comments on their posts, sometimes it is very limited interactions like only 1 like on a post. What I think they can do to attract more of a following is that they can do several things. One thing is that they can do videos showing more of the library and new additions they have in the library. They only post pictures but they never seem to change it up. So it would be interesting to show more of the library. Another thing they can do is show archival pictures. The location of the library is crucial because it is seemed to be known for taking the place of a chocolate factory in the Cast Iron District in the SoHo neighborhood a part of Manhattan, but that part of the intro got cut off. Maybe it will be a good idea to limit the intro or maybe make a separate post about the chocolate factory history. SoHo is a very popular neighborhood in Manhattan and they can use that history to their advantage. Speaking of location, another thing that they can use to their advantage, they can do collaborations. Since SoHo is a very popular neighborhood in Manhattan, there are plenty of libraries, book stores, and other types of stores in the area surrounding them. They can do collaborations on other social media accounts whether it is with another library or even a book store, but they can even collaborate with stores or food places to make events. I think that would definitely attract people to their library more. Another thing they can do is maybe do polls to see what else the customers would want to see or maybe allowing customers contribute more to picking out books for the clubs or what their children’s programs can improve on. If I ran this account, I would make a few changes. I would increase the postings to at least once a day instead of every other day to show a profiling for the librarians that work there, a day in a life in Manhattan and what it is like working and/or living in Manhattan, and to show more of the library, more stock coming in for new books, and historical and archival footage or photos to post on the Facebook account. Another thing that I need would be a good idea is try to get popular and independent authors to have book signings and discussions about their books, whether older books or newer books, and do a Facebook live event, save it, and post it on the Facebook wall. Finally, another thing I would try to do is collaborate with popular public libraries in Manhattan or other boroughs on events, such as a banned book event for example, and post about it on the Facebook wall. I think these changes, as well as the programs and events they already do, would be a great way have them to have more of aRead more“Social Media Evaluation Project 2”

Assignment 8 – Photo Creating and SharingThere are many different ways that people take part in implementing ways to help their mental health that allows them to decompress and move away from their stressors for a time. Whether you do something relaxing, active, or thought provoking, self help comes in many different ways, shapes, and forms. These are just some examples that I do in my daily life that help me and also to remind me of all different things that I enjoy and I should do when I get overwhelmed. Please see the link to my Facebook post to see the pictures. For each of these activities, they all hold an importance in my self help journey. Firstly with reading, I was not a huge reader as a child. In fact, it was hard for me to sit down and focus on a story at hand. Once I got into it, I would get invested in the story, but it usually took a lot of me to sit down and read so I did not always read. In recent years, I have become more of a book worm. A lot of changes happened in my life in recent years with me graduating with my Bachelor’s, moving out of my parents home, getting my first full time position, and so on. These are all important milestones to happen in a person’s life, but I think because all of these things were happening all at once, my anxiety increased so much and I realized I did not have an outlet. Reading became a huge outlet for me that let me escape my world for a time and dive into another world. I also love to read poetry as well. I feel that poetry is very thought provoking and can make you see the world in ways that you haven’t thought of. A more recent outlet that I have started doing more is working out. I only have been working out since the beginning of September with my friend. I still am working out my scheduling for when I can go, but when I do go, I feel so much more relaxed and my head clears up my scrambling thoughts of all the things I have to do when I get home. I have a goal of trying to be more active, but also to work with the balance of my own busy schedule and not beat myself up if I cannot go to the gym as much that week. I also have to remember that I can also be active at home when I go for a walk outside or do a work out or yoga video for movement. I think movement should be in everyone’s daily life because your physical movement actually really can impact your mental health in positive ways. Music has such a big impact on your mental health. In my opinion, the music that you listen to really does impact your mood, whether that be dancing upbeat music or melancholy music. I listen to all different types of music, but I know when I am feeling down and depleted after a long day, sometimes I am too mentally and physically tired to do anything else and that is ok. What I will do is just listen to music and sometimes I listen to soft piano music. It helps me stay calm and feels like a meditation to me. Also, I listen to piano music when I need to focus on my studies. I keep it low in the background and it keeps me calm and centered and it helps allow me to just focus on the task at hand without becoming overwhelmed by the assignment. Also, if you drink a nice hot chocolate with whipped cream while you are reading the latest book off your list, it is also nice to have soft piano music playing as well. It helps even more so for me to escape for a while to have the soft piano music playing in the background for focus as much as relaxation. Finally, gaming has such a big impact on your mental health. Sometimes my way of having fun does not involve reading or working out, but to play all different types of games. My favorite types of games are card games and board games. I love playing them with my family and friends. I love working my brain to help solve an objective and win. My favorite games are Rummy 500 in cards and the Game of Life in board games. I also like a good challenge like putting a puzzle together. I used to do them more whether that would have been a physical puzzle or a virtual puzzle set, but I have not done it as much. Honestly, I would love to get back into it. My Aunt got me this 500 Piece Puzzle set of the beach that I have been putting off doing, but I really want to make time for it. There are many different ways that can help your mental health that includes solitary and social events. I think it is important to push yourself to do all different types of events and take up different hobbies because not only will it help your mental health, but you may also learn new skill sets as well as developingRead more“Assignment 8 – Photo Creating and Sharing”

Assignment 7 – Online SurveysHey There, Everyone! I have this survey that I made for our latest assignment; one version in Google Forms and the other version in Survey Monkey. The survey that I decided to create is called “What Is Your Main Source Of Medium?”. There are so many mediums out there and I think it can really play into our mental health. It shows what we go to when we want to relax or want to learn something. So I thought it would be interesting to learn what everyone prefers or don’t prefers doing, whether it is reading or playing video games as a couple of examples. It could also be something else entirely as well. I hope everyone enjoys the survey. This is the link for the Google Forms version of the survey: What Is Your Main Source Of Entertainment? Social Media Evaluation Project 1 The Instagram account that I chose to do my social media evaluation project on is the Suffern Free Library account, which is located at 210 Lafayette Avenue Suffern, NY 10901. This Instagram page has been around since February 7th, 2022 yet it does appear to be making waves online. I believe there are some reasons for this. Before I state those reasons, let us evaluate the positives of this page. Although they do not post daily, they do post frequently enough on current events that are happening in their library. For example, on September 21st, 2023, which happens to be their latest post, they posted about their latest book for a 10-12 Grade Book Club meeting that will happening on Monday, October 16th, 2023 in the evening. They even offered for the first 5 teens that sign up for the event, they will receive free copies of the book they will be reading for the book club and they will be served snacks and drinks at the event. I think it is important that they offer incentives that invites young teens to the event, such as the free books and snacks and drinks. It represents a very welcoming environment where the librarians want to create a homey vibe to their library where teens can enjoy the storytelling and share that love with friends that they meet. Another positive is that their events do not only focus on books, but other medias as well. For example, on September 13th, 2023, they posted for the 7-12th graders that they are invited to watch two episodes of the famous anime, One Piece, have a chance to win a raffle that has manga-themed prizes, and eat Japanese snacks. Not only is it nice that they are using other medias to bring teens into the library and being interactive with them with prizes and snacks but they are also bringing in other cultures to make it more diverse. Although these are a couple of amazing points to their page, they can be some improvements made to be more engaging. Firstly, there are a ton of events that are happening in October 2023 at the library that are not even posted on the Instagram page, such as Adult Bingo, Author’s virtual meeting to discuss new book, and so many more events. It is very crucial that the Instagram page is as updated as the website, which is listed in the bio on the account, to market and create traction for these events. I do not think they are using their resource of this account as adequately as they can to promote their library. Another thing is a follow up to this point and that is the frequency of the posts. During the regular school year, it seems that on average, this library posts on their Instagram 3-4 times a month and sometimes even less. It appears that in the summer time, they only post once a month. I understand that school is out for the summer so maybe that is why they don’t post as much, but still, I think it will be interesting to keep the followers updated on what books the librarians are reading or what they are watching and just stuff that will keep the followers interested. The interest will be to the point where they want to come to the library because the librarians have made their page personable and the followers seem to know and trust the librarians. Another thing about the account is that they have a very low following of just 89 followers. Although it seems geared towards teens that live in their area, I think if they ever wanted to, they can create a page where if the teens are engaged enough with it, they can share it online with their friends, who will share it with their friends, and it will create more of a bigger following where their library will be much more popular. I mentioned before how they can make it more personal by showing the librarians what they are reading or watching. Other things they can do is to post some writing, researching, or studying, which will be geared towards students who need guidance on that. Another thing that they can post are book challenges for the whole school year and have a contest on which teens can read the most books in the school year or even the whole year. For the following aspect of the page, they do not follow any pages themselves and they do not receive a lot of likes or comments on their posts, if any. I do not think they are doing enough to increase their following or to receive the interactions in the form of likes and comments on their posts. All their posts are 100% in the form of pictures and it does not look like their are professionally handled in the sense of there does not seem to be a filter on the posts and it was just posted as is. Maybe the picture was cropped but it does not look like they put filters on their posts. There are no videos on the account. I cannot tell if they usually post stories or not but right now, there are no stories and if I would have to assume, I do not believe they post a ton of stories. I think that the posts are simple and sometimes people are attracted to regular posts. However, if you would want to stand out, they would need to have well done posts that look more eye popping and will draw attention to their posts more. Finally, another thing I noticed was that they only seem to show what they are doing on their Instagram account. They don’t seem to repost anything outside of the library. They show events with authors and even a event they had just a couple of months ago where a Taekwondo instructor came to teach teens about some self defense techniques. However, the person(s) that run the account do not always list all the events on the Instagram page so people may not know that there are events going on where they are people outside of the library doing an event there. It does not seem to happen a lot where the library will have people outside of the library come and do an event. If I ran this account, I would make a few changes. Firstly, I would incorporate not only posts daily and I would try to do multiple times a day, but I would also update the account where the events would match the website and be up to date on what is going on in the library. I would post stories regarding each of the posts as well as send reminders or even do countdowns of important events so people do not forget. Also, I would do lives where I could broadcast the event or do Q&A’s of any topics that followers want to discuss as examples. Another thing I would do is connect with other libraries to collaborate on events where I can expand on the library’s following as well as develop partnerships with other libraries. Once that relationship is established with other libraries, I would repost events happening in their library to show online partnership and support. Finally, I would incorporate the examples I said before with the book challenges for the whole year, guidance on writing, researching, and studying tips for struggling students, and videos on life in the library. I think there is so much more that can be utilized on this account that can help grow their following. They do seem to have a lot of great events at this library so it would be splendid if they kept their Instagram up to date to show all these funRead more“Social Media Evaluation Project 1”
