Cynthia S. Wiseman, EdD, is a Full Professor in Academic Literacy & Linguistics at BMCC CUNY.
Dr. Wiseman is a full professor in the Academic Literacy & Linguistics Department at BMCC. At BMCC, she teaches forensic linguistics, language and culture, language teaching practices, and an introduction to sociolinguistics. She earned her doctorate from Teachers College in Applied Linguistics, specializing in the evaluation and assessment of 2nd language writing by investigating rater decision-making when using analytic and holistic scoring rubrics. She also holds an MAT in teaching ESL and French from School for International Training, Brattleboro, VT, and a MS from CUNY SPS in Business Management and Leadership. Prof. Wiseman has worked in language education for over 40 years and has been actively engaged in teacher training as Assistant Director of the Zigen English Teacher Program in China and Teacher Trainer in Taiwan. She was a Fulbright Scholar at Pham Van Dong University Quang Ngai Vietnam in 2015, investigating communicative language teaching practices in rural contexts, and currently serves on the National Screening Committee for the Fulbright US Student Program. She has also served in various elected leadership roles in professional organizations, including President (2001-2002) NYSTESOL (New York State Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) and TESOL International.
