Brian Maasjo

Assistant Dean of Student Affairs

I joined the Hunter community in July, 2013 as the Director of Academic Advising and have worked in student affairs at various schools in NYC for most of the past two decades (ranging from residence life, student activities, student leadership development, civic engagement, and academic advising). I earned my master’s degree at Columbia University in Higher Education Administration and have completed graduate work in media studies at The New School to further my interest in narrative and design. I’m so pleased to be able to work with Hunter students and impressed by the incredible talent and tenacity I see in students here. As a first generation college student, going to college and graduate school was particularly transformational to my life, so I appreciate the chance to work at Hunter where I share that experience with so many. As director, I’m committed to working with my advising staff to continually assess and develop academic advising to promote overall student success. When I’m not at work, I’m often on a tennis or volleyball court,or checking out some new restaurants (foodie!)or art.
