Activism has not played a role in my academic life, but with good reason. One topic that was and still is highly controversial, is grading policy. So many questions surround this idea, such as: Why are we defined by our grades? How well do exams capture what we know? While we all had our doubts in the system, the feelings were often suppressed. This is due to the fact that, as students, we are scared to stand up the authority of our educational institution and teachers. Now, after writing my essay on the stereotypical housewife through time, I noticed that not questioning the things we see or are told is the main reason for the longevity of our problems. Time and time again, the idea of a housewife has been instilled in the minds of all who consume any form of media from music to magazines. Through visual imagery splattered in Time Magazine we subconsciously absorb stereotypical depictions which affects the way we live and interact with each other on a daily basis. With music, the lyrics attached to upbeat tunes diffuses misogyny into the brains of those who listen and subconsciously affects the way they think.
