Public Talk: The Ethics of AI – Wed., April 21 @ 7:30pm

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) is ever present in our lives and will continue to have an even larger role in society, but we must not forget that machines are programmed by humans. Going forward, what ethical issues and rules must be further defined as these machines act in the world? How do we avoid perpetuating gender, race, and age bias through AI, and how do we ensure that machines do not cross the ethical boundaries of our society? Susan L. Epstein, professor of computer science at Hunter College and The Graduate Center, CUNY, moderates a panel of experts.

Featuring: Vincent Conitzer of Duke University, who is the Kimberly J. Jenkins Distinguished University Professor of New Technologies and a professor of computer science, economics, and philosophy; Gillian Hadfield of the University of Toronto, who is the inaugural Schwartz Reisman Chair in Technology and Society and a professor of law and strategic management; Francesca Rossi, an IBM fellow and the IBM AI ethics global leader; and Julie Shah, an associate professor of aeronautics and astronautics at MIT, who leads the Interactive Robotics Group of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.
