Academic Technology Research and Development Group

Welcome to the home of the CUNY Committee on Academic Technology Research and Development Group (CAT-R&D).

The mission of CAT-R&D is to research, test, and recommend new technologies from the perspective of classroom faculty needs and pedagogical effectiveness.

CAT-R&D exists to advance the field of academic technology by consulting with colleagues and groups developing new technologies, conducting classroom trials, and sponsoring programs. The goal is to provide independent evaluations using transparent criteria that are openly reported on the CUNY Academic Commons, at the annual CUNY IT conference, and to other bodies.

CAT-R&D fosters academic excellence by working with researchers, educators, and developers to create an academically enriching environment for students and faculty.
The CAT-R&D is to be known as the “skunkworks” and the reason for this can be found here

Announcement by Christopher Stein on 6/16/11

  • We are progressing in the Blackboard CourseSites R&D project and there are two areas where we could use your attention/help. One is with a letter that will be sent to the administrators at the campuses with participating faculty and staff members. Any help with this letter from tone, content, grammar is appreciated. It is located in the Docs section of the navigation on the left of the group. This is one of the new features of the Commons and allows for collaborative document editing. You can either edit the document directly or leave a comment below it (or both).
The deadline for comments is one week, Thursday, June 23.

The second area is finalizing the group of researchers who will take part in the project. If you are interested in participating and haven't notified us please either post here in the group or send an email to Helen or me. If you've already expressed interest and have questions or are not sure if your interest was noted please feel free to contact us as well again.
Please let us know by the end of the month, Thursday, June 30.
    Thanks,
    Chris
