This group showcases the journalistic work of its members, who have been honing their writing style and are now lending their voices to advocate for a local organization they’ve chosen to support.
I would now like to introduce you all to Stacie Mahadeo who I had the pleasure of speaking with to ask a few questions and if you didn’t know she is the Director of school based programs here at The Boys and Girls Club of Metro Queens.
Interview Questions:
What made you want to be a part of the boys and girls club of metro queens?
“I’ve always been dedicated to giving back to the community and helping young adults reach their full potential. The Boys & Girls Club of Metro Queens is well-known for inspiring young individuals, offering mentoring, and creating chances for personal development.I chose to be a part of this organization because I believe in its purpose and the wonderful influence it has on children, particularly by providing them with a safe environment in which to grow, learn, and interact with others. I’m delighted to use my abilities, passion, and experiences to assist improve the lives of children and teens in Queens.”
Have you faced any obstacles while working here? If so, what were they?
“Yes, like with anything in life, there have been challenges along the way. A challenge that I encountered was adjusting to different ways of interacting when dealing with a wide range of people, whether they were staff or the children we assisted. It took some time to figure out the best ways to interact with each person and make sure they felt heard and encouraged. Another challenge has been successfully managing time, especially when handling different programs or events. However, I’ve learned to prioritize and keep organized, which has allowed me to overcome those obstacles and stay focused on the bigger picture. I see challenges as opportunities for growth, and each one has taught me significant lessons.”
Are you in contact still with any teens or staff that attended BGMQC ? and do they feel like they learned anything or life has improved?
“Yes, I am still in touch with a few BGMQC kids and staff members. It’s been extremely satisfying to see how much they’ve matured and how their Club experiences have influenced their life. Several of the teens I’ve been in touch with have stated that the mentorship and assistance they got helped them gain confidence, learn new skills, and make better personal decisions. Some have gone on to further their studies or are working on programs they are passionate about, which is quite rewarding to see. Many staff members have remarked that working at BGMQC helps them develop leadership abilities and a better knowledge of the difficulties that young people deal with, which they now apply in their own careers or in community work. Overall, it seems that the experiences they gained have had a positive impact on their lives and outlook.”
Has BGMCQ left an impact on you and your life? If so, how ?
“BGMQC had a tremendous impact on me. Being engaged with the organization has taught me a lot about the value of community, guidance, and giving back. I’ve gained knowledge on how to work with a wide range of people, especially teenagers from various backgrounds, and how to connect with them in meaningful ways. It’s also helped me understand the issues that young people experience and how we can help by providing support, guidance, and opportunities. Personally, it has increased my patience, feelings, and determination to make a difference in my community. The experiences and insights I’ve learned from being a member of BGMQC continue to influence how I approach my professional and personal life.”
Overall I hope you all enjoyed this interview and learned more.
