This group showcases the journalistic work of its members, who have been honing their writing style and are now lending their voices to advocate for a local organization they’ve chosen to support.
Haiti Cultural Exchange (HCX), a vital nonprofit organization based in Brooklyn, New York, dedicated to preserving and promoting Haitian culture through the arts. Established in 2009, HCX serves as a bridge connecting Haitian artists, and cultural enthusiasts to the New York City community.
HCX has become a beacon of creativity and cultural pride under the leadership of Executive Director Régine M. Roumain. Through workshops, performances, exhibitions, and community programs, the organization provides a platform for Haitian artists to showcase their talents while fostering dialogue about the rich traditions of Haiti.
HCX plays a key role in the lives of Haitian Americans and other local residents of Brooklyn and beyond, offering programs that include language classes, music/dance performances, and youth engagement activities to not only celebrate Haiti’s vibrant heritage but also counteract negative stereotypes and highlight the country’s resilience and creativity.
Since its creation, the Haiti Cultural Exchange has helped amplify the voices of Haitian creators in the diaspora. And as anti-Haitian rhetoric rises in some circles, HCX’s mission remains the same, working to promote understanding, unity, and cultural pride through arts.
