Opportunity: Python programmer

  • Dear all,

    Please see below for a short-term position that requires experience in Python programming and text analysis. Please contact Erec Koch directly if you are interested.

    Best,

    Lisa

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    A faculty member is looking to work with a Python developer who has experience in text analysis to write a program to find near matches between two texts with differences at the character level (with similarity defined via minimum edit distance). The program should match groups of contiguous words that have close but not always identical spellings, with possibly intervening words between matched groups. The program should take in the two texts and output a CSV file with the matches as well as information on the location of the matches inside the text. After project completion, the candidate will be asked to provide documentation for the program with an explication of how it works.
    This is a paid position, and the required work is expected to amount to a maximum of 15 hours including development, communication with, and instruction of the project team. Interested applicants should contact Professor Erec Koch via email to ekoch1@ccny.cuny.edu, with the subject line \”Python Programmer\”. For full consideration, please write by next Monday, October 22nd.
