Listenin’ to the City CCNY/CWE

The aim of this group is to explore ‘listening’ as part of a journalistic practice. Our members have actively listened to local organizations throughout the city and work on a digital project to document their experiences through expository and creative writing, audio/video recordings and photography.

Those who cannot remember the past…

  • In 1905’s “The Life Of Reason”, George Santayana said “those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”. If you want to know what the future may hold, or how to learn from mistakes, knowing history is a solid step to take. Right here in the heart of the Big Apple and on the Lower East Side, you can take a trip into the past at the Tenement Museum. Located at 97 Orchard Street, you can tour an abandoned tenement showing you exactly how your ancestors may have lived in the 1860’s. The museum website has a virtual tour and essentially takes you can into time: https://www.tenement.org

Tickets for tours can be purchased here https://www.tenement.org/tours/?tour_date=2024-05-23, and I highly recommend it, especially for any New York City residents.
