Listenin’ to the City CCNY/CWE

The aim of this group is to explore ‘listening’ as part of a journalistic practice. Our members have actively listened to local organizations throughout the city and work on a digital project to document their experiences through expository and creative writing, audio/video recordings and photography.

  • Meet Joyce, QCFM’s Farm to Table Coordinator

On any given day, you’ll probably find Joyce at the Farmstand or behind the cash register at the Farm Store. The day I met Joyce for our interview, it was a rainy spring day and she was tending the greenhouse.

You see, Joyce wears many hats at the Queens County Farm Museum, officially functioning as our Farm to Table Coordinator.

The way she describes it, she’s involved in “anything that you would take away from here that’s a natural item or just your experience at the farm or special programs or events that we have.”

If you know anything about all the goings-on at the farm, that’s a lot of stuff that Joyce is involved in! But her favorite job? It’s the Farmstand, where she gets the chance to meet people from the neighborhood, like you.

“A lot of people who come to the Farmstand, the first thing they’ll say is, ‘Where did this come from?’ I say, ‘Right behind us,’ and they have no idea!”

Never heard of the Queens County Farm Museum? Make sure to stop by the Farmstand, set up at the entrance of the farm Wednesdays through Sundays from early May through mid-November. Stop by between 10 AM and 4 PM.

The Farm Stand is where you can learn about workshops and seasonal events at the farm and purchase seasonal produce, honey, and more. And don’t forget to say hi to Joyce!
