Listenin’ to the City CCNY/CWE

The aim of this group is to explore ‘listening’ as part of a journalistic practice. Our members have actively listened to local organizations throughout the city and work on a digital project to document their experiences through expository and creative writing, audio/video recordings and photography.

  • Brooklyn Botanic Gardens Engages Youth with Hands-On Learning on Climate Change

    Location: Brooklyn, New York

Brooklyn Botanic Garden (BBG) is launching an exciting initiative this spring to engage youth in hands-on learning about climate change. School groups of all ages are invited to participate in self-guided visits to the Discovery Garden, where volunteer Discovery Instructors will lead interactive activity stations.

The Discovery Garden offers a unique opportunity for students to explore various habitats, including meadows, woodlands, and marshes, while learning about the impacts of climate change. Through engaging activities, students will gain a deeper understanding of environmental issues and the importance of conservation.

The program is free and open to school groups of all ages, with a maximum class size of 30 students per time slot. Teachers and educators are encouraged to take advantage of this educational opportunity to supplement classroom learning and promote environmental literacy.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s initiative to engage youth in hands-on learning about climate change through school group visits to the Discovery Garden is a commendable effort to foster environmental awareness and stewardship among future generations. By providing interactive learning experiences in a natural setting, BBG is empowering students to become advocates for a sustainable future.
