Listenin’ to the City CCNY/CWE

The aim of this group is to explore ‘listening’ as part of a journalistic practice. Our members have actively listened to local organizations throughout the city and work on a digital project to document their experiences through expository and creative writing, audio/video recordings and photography.

When Brooklyn Botanic Garden was established more than a century ago, the neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York, was rapidly turning into a cityscape of concrete streets and buildings. One strategy to make sure they maintained some green space was to create a public garden. The Garden now stands for the pinnacle of horticultural exhibition and urban gardening.

As an urban botanic garden, Brooklyn Botanic Garden introduces people to the world of plants, encouraging curiosity and understanding while stimulating an appreciation and sense for ecological stewardship.

BBG inspires people of all ages in the Garden, in its neighborhood, and far beyond with plant conservation, happiness and display; educational programs that emphasize learning by doing; and research with the objective of recognizing and conserving indigenous plants and plant ecosystems.
