Listenin’ to the City CCNY/CWE

The aim of this group is to explore ‘listening’ as part of a journalistic practice. Our members have actively listened to local organizations throughout the city and work on a digital project to document their experiences through expository and creative writing, audio/video recordings and photography.

    CUNY Citizenship Now! is partnered with the New York City Council to hold events called “Become a Citizen: Opportunities Await”.

    Want to join and be a part of the action? CUNY Citizenship Now! Is always looking for new volunteers interested in assisting the immigrant community. Members of the volunteer group speak over 50 languages and come from various backgrounds. (No background knowledge in the field of law is required)—Anyone can join!

    Volunteers will work alongside attorneys, paralegals, and staff members. During the events, work roles are provided to the volunteers. Those roles include participant registration, Event Flow Management, Interpreters, Screeners, Fee Waivers, Application stations, and Check out.

    From the experience, volunteers gain special access to training opportunities, may receive pro bono and/or CLE credit for providing law-related assistance, can be included in your resume, and it’s a fun learning experience!
